Rindikiri Condemns KWS Laxity In Buuri Constituency After Elephants Kill A Child Leaving One Seriously Injured

Buuri MP Rindikiri Mugambi has condemned the laxity and poor work being showcased by Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) in Meru after a child was killed and left one seriously injured by stray elephants in IIka Ijiri village Ruiri Rwarera Ward, Buuri Constituency.

The MP has asked Tourism CS Najib Balala to come and mourn with the people of IIka Ijiri village and issue some orders to Meru KWS to have their work done amicably. Annoyed by KWS the MP asked the officer in charge to resign if he is tired of his work.

Emmanuel Bundi a resident in the village said “We are so disappointed by KWS in this area. Instead of them dealing with the roaming elephants, they fight the media people and bar them from covering the incidents. We are tired and we cannot keep losing our people. We will kill those elephants”

Angry residents say they plant crops but never harvest because elephants trample on them. They also cannot walk around with peace of mind because elephants lurk in the nearby forest.

They have vowed to take the law in their hands if KWS will not stop their animals from killing people, as they will hunt them down and kill them.

Demonstrations to protest against the KWS Rangers’ inability to contain the elephants have borne no fruits.

Elephants freely roaming the expansive Imenti forest, which is part of the Mt Kenya forest and the Buuri area have killed and injured many before.
