Safaricom is redefining Kenya’s digital journey by investing in advanced network infrastructure, expanding 5G coverage, and ensuring underserved communities are not left behind.

Investing in a Stronger Network

Over the past decade, Safaricom has poured billions into strengthening its network. Today, more than 97% of Kenyans can access 4G, while investment in fibre and mobile internet continues to grow.

The company’s strategy is not just about urban centres, it extends to rural areas where connectivity often means the difference between being included or excluded in the digital economy.

“Every mast we build and every site we upgrade is a step toward bridging the digital divide,” notes a Safaricom engineer. “It’s about giving every Kenyan equal access to opportunity.”

Expanding 5G to Unlock New Possibilities

Safaricom has already rolled out over 1,100 active 5G sites, making Kenya one of Africa’s early adopters of next-generation connectivity. Unlike previous upgrades, 5G is not just about faster browsing.

It supports telemedicine, real-time learning, smart agriculture, and small businesses that rely on stable internet for growth.

In Kisumu, a community health centre recently adopted 5G-powered teleconsultations, reducing the need for long-distance travel to see specialists. Farmers in Machakos are now using mobile apps that deliver instant weather updates, helping them plan better and avoid losses.

Reaching Underserved Communities

Safaricom’s mission to connect the unconnected is visible in its rural projects. In Turkana, for example, newly connected schools can now run digital literacy programmes, while women-led small businesses use mobile internet to market beadwork beyond their villages.

For many in these regions, affordable data bundles and reliable connections are more than conveniences, they are lifelines to education, healthcare, and income.

A Connected Nation, A Stronger Economy

By blending large-scale investment with human-centred impact, Safaricom is shaping Kenya’s digital economy. Faster speeds, wider coverage, and affordable packages are not just about convenience.

They are about ensuring every Kenyan, whether in Nairobi or Marsabit, has the tools to thrive in a connected world.

Safaricom’s story is one of innovation meeting inclusion, where data is not just powering devices, but transforming lives.
