Glovo Academy Equips Kenyan SMBs with Tools for Digital Growth

Glovo is doubling down on its support for small businesses in Kenya, as it rolled out the 7th edition of the Glovo Academy in Nairobi.

The programme, held on March 18, continues to position itself as more than just a training session. Instead, it is becoming a practical growth platform for small and medium businesses (SMBs) navigating an increasingly digital economy.

Since launching in 2023, the Academy has focused on helping entrepreneurs overcome one of their biggest barriers limited access to digital skills and tools. This is especially critical given that SMBs account for over 85% of Glovo’s partners.

From Training to Real Business Impact

For many participants, the Academy offers something rare: direct access to Glovo’s local teams.

This connection allows business owners to better understand the platform while also sharing their day-to-day challenges. As a result, the sessions go beyond theory and focus on real operational needs.

Yvonne Muthoka, Glovo Kenya’s SMBs and Academy Lead, said the goal is to move businesses beyond basic app usage.

“We are shifting from simply teaching how to use the platform to helping partners lead in a digital-first market,” she said. “The Academy is also about building a community where entrepreneurs can learn, connect, and grow together.”

Turning Data into Growth

A key highlight of the session was hands-on training using Glovo’s Godroid tools.

Through live demonstrations, participants learned how to track performance, analyse customer behaviour, and manage orders more efficiently. These tools, often underutilised, are designed to help businesses make smarter decisions.

With better data, business owners can now run targeted campaigns, improve visibility, and increase sales. In effect, their mobile devices become control centres for daily operations.

Learning from Peers and Experience

Beyond the technical sessions, the Academy created space for networking and shared learning.

Participants exchanged challenges and practical solutions. They also drew inspiration from businesses that have successfully scaled on the platform.

For many, this peer learning element added real value by showing what is possible with the right strategy and tools.

Margaret Gatiba of Tibbz Restaurant said the programme helped shift their mindset.

“Before, we were reacting to problems as they came. Now, we think more strategically,” she noted. “We have improved our digital presence and streamlined our delivery process. That has made a big difference.”

Building a Stronger SME Ecosystem

Ultimately, the Glovo Academy highlights a broader shift in how tech platforms engage with small businesses.

Rather than simply offering tools, companies are now investing in skills, relationships, and long-term growth.

By combining practical training with community support, Glovo is helping Nairobi’s SMBs become more competitive. At the same time, it is strengthening the broader food and delivery ecosystem.

As digital adoption continues to rise, initiatives like the Glovo Academy could play a key role in shaping the next generation of Kenyan entrepreneurs
