Five-day tour celebrates Kenya’s football culture while inspiring young players and content creators

Safaricom has officially welcomed the Arsenal Fan TV (AFTV) team to Kenya, kicking off a five-day tour that celebrates the country’s vibrant football culture while shining a spotlight on grassroots talent and digital storytelling.

The tour began with a press briefing at Nairobi’s Serena Hotel, bringing together football enthusiasts, media and industry stakeholders ahead of a series of fan engagements scheduled across the city.

Celebrating Kenya’s Love for Football

Speaking during the launch, AFTV Founder Robbie Lyle said Kenya was a natural choice for the tour because of the country’s deep passion for football.

He pointed to the celebrations that swept across Nairobi after Arsenal’s English Premier League triumph last season, saying they reflected the energy and enthusiasm of Kenyan fans.

Lyle added that AFTV remains committed to telling authentic football stories that bring communities together and showcase the universal appeal of the sport.

Spotlight on Grassroots Talent

The visit also highlights Safaricom’s continued investment in grassroots football through the Chapa Dimba na Safaricom programme.

Now in its fifth season, the initiative has given thousands of young footballers opportunities to compete, receive mentorship and gain exposure. Its impact is already being felt, with four former Chapa Dimba players currently representing Kenya at the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Safaricom says the programme continues to provide a pathway for young talent to progress from community pitches to national and international competition.

Empowering the Next Generation of Creators

Safaricom Director of Brand and Marketing, Zizwe Awuor, said the partnership with AFTV extends beyond football by creating opportunities for young digital storytellers.

He noted that football today is experienced not only in stadiums but also through online content, making creators an important part of the game’s growing ecosystem.

Awuor also highlighted the company’s recently launched Pata More proposition, which offers customers more data at the same price, enabling fans to watch matches, engage with creators, and share football content more easily.

Community Engagement Across Nairobi

As part of the tour, the AFTV team will visit Toi Primary School for a grassroots football session with young players, reinforcing the tour’s focus on inspiring future talent and supporting community sport.

Running from 1 to 5 August, the AFTV Kenya Tour will feature fan interactions, football personalities and community events across Nairobi, celebrating the power of football to unite people, inspire ambition and create new opportunities both on and off the pitch.
