WITIA Announces First-Ever Women in STEM Africa Summit in Nairobi
Championing African Innovation
Across Africa, women in STEM face a range of complex challenges. These include limited access to funding, mentorship, and opportunities. Gender bias remains prevalent in both educational institutions and corporate boardrooms.
For many young women, exposure to science and technology begins too late. Those already in the field often struggle with retention, recognition, and leadership advancement.
To address these gaps, Women in Technology and Innovation Africa (WITIA) is hosting a landmark event. The inaugural Women in STEM Africa Summit will take place from July 8–10, 2025, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi.

A Strategic Global Platform
In a bold move, the summit will run alongside two major events: the Africa Technology Show and the 10th anniversary of China Trade Week Kenya. This co-location puts women at the heart of Africa’s innovation story right in front of global players.
More than 30 influential speakers are confirmed, including policy leaders, tech trailblazers, and grassroots changemakers. The summit is designed not just for dialogue but as a launchpad for real change.
“This is more than a conference,” said Joyce Muthoni, CEO and Co-founder of WITIA.
“It’s a rallying point for every woman and girl dreaming of shaping Africa’s future through science and technology.”
She added, “We’re creating a space where innovation is borderless, opportunity is equitable, and leadership is inclusive.”
Tackling the STEM Gender Gap
Under the theme “Borderless Innovation: Pioneering Global Technology Solutions for Africa’s Challenges,” the summit reflects WITIA’s mission to break down barriers. These include national, sectoral, and community divides empowering women to lead transformation.
Key program areas include:
-

Empowering the Next Generation
Importantly, the summit will focus on youth engagement. Young women and girls will benefit from mentorship, career exposure, and access to decision-makers. This directly tackles systemic barriers that have long held them back.
The summit aims to:
-
Inspire more women and girls to pursue STEM
-
Build new alliances among innovators, governments, and investors
-
Shape actionable policy recommendations
-
Raise the visibility of African women in global tech
-
Boost investment in Africa’s women-led innovation ecosystem
“The future of Africa’s technological growth depends on full and equitable participation by women,” said Dr. Bella Namango, a WITIA board member.
“This summit is a clear signal of our commitment to removing barriers and ensuring African women lead the digital revolution.”
Why Nairobi, Why Now?
WITIA’s decision to co-host the summit with two established expos is strategic. It maximizes visibility, encourages global collaboration, and unlocks new funding opportunities.
“We’re opening doors,” Muthoni emphasized. “It’s time for Africa’s women to be seen, heard, and funded. When women rise, Africa rises with them.”
Toward a More Inclusive Future
From classrooms to boardrooms, and from villages to virtual platforms, the Women in STEM Africa Summit 2025 is a bold leap toward a more inclusive digital future.
It’s not just a gathering it’s a movement. A place where women lead with ideas, innovate without limits, and tackle real-world problems that matter.
