The Future of Golf Lies in Nurturing Young Talent – NCBA
The Future of Golf Lies in Nurturing Young Talent – NCBA. Golf in Kenya is getting younger, stronger, and more inclusive. NCBA is right at the center of that transformation.
Investing in Junior Golf
Through the NCBA Junior Golf Series and partnerships with the Junior Golf Foundation (JGF), the bank is heavily investing in young talent across Kenya and the region. NCBA supports tournaments and coaching programs to help young players grow in the sport.
This year, NCBA committed KSh 12 million to the Junior Golf Foundation. This investment shows the bank’s focus on making golf more accessible and giving young players the tools to succeed.
“At NCBA, we believe the future of golf lies in nurturing young talent,” said John Gachora, Group Managing Director. “We are investing in tournaments, training programs, and mentorship to empower the next generation of golfers.”

The Coast Junior Open
Recently, the 3rd NCBA Coast Junior Open took place in Mombasa at the historic Mombasa Golf Club. Forty-five young golfers competed, braving rain and wind to show their passion and skill.
George Mokaya, the club’s captain, praised the juniors. “These juniors are now participating in club events like the Tannahill Shield,” he said. “Thanks to JGF and partners like NCBA, the sport is more inclusive, empowering the next generation.”

Driving Growth and Building Dreams
Yasir Ashu, NCBA Coast Region Manager, added: “Our support for JGF Kenya is more than just tournament sponsorship. It’s an investment in Kenyan golf’s future. We want every junior to compete, grow, and dream big.”
Golf Beyond the Course
NCBA’s support for golf is part of its broader “Change The Story” platform, which focuses on 15 sustainability commitments. These include promoting inclusive sports, building skills, and supporting environmental conservation.
For instance, NCBA recently donated and planted indigenous trees at Kenya Railway Golf Club. This is part of its goal to plant 10 million trees by 2030.

A Broader Commitment to the Game
Golf isn’t just for juniors. Earlier this year, NCBA announced a KES 60 million investment into its 2025 golf activities. This includes KES 6 million for the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) Series and KES 1.2 million for the Professional Golfers of Kenya, supporting its programs with a starter kit.
NCBA also plans to support 159 golf events across Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda in 2025. That’s a significant increase from the 130 events held in 2024.
Redefining the Game in East Africa
As the numbers grow, so does the impact. NCBA is not just backing golf. It is helping to reshape what the game looks like in East Africa, starting with the youngest players on the green.
