We have not discontinued Linda Mama program, NHIF clarifies
The National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) has come out with guns blazing denying claims that it has discontinued the government-funded Linda Mama program.
NHIF is now urging the public to ignore false messages shared online indicating that the program which has since its inception in 2017 benefited over 6 million mothers has been discontinued.
“Attention is drawn to recent false social media messages purporting the discontinuity of the government-funded Linda Mama program. NHIF wishes to assure the public that the cover is still active as mothers continue to benefit massively,” says NHIF in a statement.
The program targets expectant women with an aim of reducing maternal and child deaths.
Is Linda Mama Program Still Operational?
Further, it also seeks to alleviate the struggles shouldered by mothers in paying medical bills during pregnancy and childbirth while encouraging them to seek services of a skilled birth attendant.
Under the program, expectant mothers access a one-year cover for four antenatal visits, normal or Caesarean section delivery, three postnatal care visits and vaccines for the child.
The clarification comes barely three days after the newly appointed NHIF Board Chairman Eng. Michael Kamau called on Kenyans to consistently pay their monthly contributions on time in order to access timely services.
Eng. Kamau says with support from Kenyans, the Board aims to hit new milestones in providing accessible, affordable, sustainable, equitable, and quality health insurance to meet every need.
“An active health insurance cover protects you and your family against unforeseen health emergencies and existing conditions,” Eng. Kamau who succeeded Lewis Nguyai whose appointment was recently revoked said.
