Governors Recommend Return Of Containment Measure – Covid-19 Summit
The Council of Governors through its chair Wycliffe Oparanya wants Covid-19 containment measures restored to avert the sudden rise in infections and Kenyans may soon have to lock up at 9 pm again in case President Uhuru Kenyatta heeds to the advice by Governors today.
Oparanya said “Your Excellency, the Council of Governors recommends that all containment protocols be implemented in their original form. We request that the nationwide curfew currently in force be varied from 11 pm to 9 pm,”
In a meeting (the National and County Government’s Co-ordinating Summit) set up to avail solutions to the Covid-19 threat, at Nairobi’s State Oparanya expressed concern over the disregard of Covid-19 protocols that have contributed to the surge in infections over the last month.

Governors want the curfew time reviewed from 11 pm to 9 pm- ending at 4 am, as was the case at the beginning of the pandemic in Kenya.
He highlighted laxity in the transport, entertainment, and market sectors-being areas where Kenyans had mostly let their guard down.
“The political class have continued to be the super spreaders of this virus. This has led to escalation of COVID-19 cases and collapse of contact tracing efforts,” he added.
Governors also recommended that anyone found flouting the health protocols including politicians to face the law.
“County Governments will begin a sensitizing campaign ‘No Mask No Service’. Anyone found rendering services to someone not observing the protocols will be found liable,” he said.
