More Kenyan women are chasing their dreams of running successful businesses. But turning those dreams into reality is not always easy.

Many face real challenges including limited access to credit, little mentorship, and cultural expectations that can hold them back.

But quietly and steadily, things are changing.

NCBA is among the banks helping drive that change. Over the past few years, the bank has been working closely with women in business, offering support that goes beyond traditional banking.

It starts with access to finance. NCBA has introduced loan options that don’t ask for heavy collateral something that’s often a major barrier for women.

Whether someone is running a salon in Nairobi CBD, keeping dairy cows in Meru, or building an online store in Nakuru, NCBA is stepping in with loans designed to match real-life needs.

The goal is: “meet women where they are and help them grow from there.”

More Than Just Loans

But money isn’t everything.

One of NCBA’s agendas is focusing on helping women build long-term skills. The bank is giving entrepreneurs the tools to stay competitive through training, mentorship, and partnerships, especially in today’s digital world.

An example of such a partnership is with Cherehani Africa, a women-led social enterprise that supports small businesses in rural areas. Cherehani offers microloans and digital resources to women running informal enterprises.

With support from NCBA and the Mastercard Foundation, the initiative has now reached over 20,000 women in counties like Kisumu, Siaya, and Murang’a.

“NCBA’s support has allowed us to grow and improve our financial training,” says Mumbi Ndung’u, co-founder of Cherehani. “We’ve seen more women gain confidence, manage their businesses better, and think long-term.”

Real Change, One Business at a Time

NCBA is holding mentorship events across the country, connecting women to markets and helping them think bigger. These small changes are adding up, and the impact is spreading from individual businesses to larger communities.

This initiative is about being part of something bigger. Supporting women in business fits into Kenya’s wider development goals, including Vision 2030, which aims to build a stronger, fairer economy.

Women are making strides in farming, retail, tech, manufacturing, you name it. And with the right support, their businesses are not only surviving, they’re thriving.

NCBA says it wants to be more than just a bank. It wants to be a partner, walking alongside women as they build, grow, and lead.

And if this #GoForIt momentum continues, Kenya’s business future may look more balanced, more vibrant, and a lot more woman-led.
