Four Arrested in Attempted Jet Fuel Theft at Wilson Airport
Police have arrested four suspects who tried to siphon jet fuel from an aircraft at Wilson Airport, raising fresh concerns over security within restricted aviation zones.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) intercepted the suspects inside the airport while they transported the fuel. Officers recovered four drums, each holding 200 litres, bringing the total to about 800 litres.
How the Scheme Unfolded
Investigators say the suspects siphoned the fuel from an aircraft under maintenance at a hangar. They likely used the maintenance process to conceal the operation.
The group included the alleged owner, a driver, and two accomplices. Officers arrested them on the spot after confirming they lacked clearance to access restricted areas.
Authorities also found that the vehicle did not have approval from the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) to transport petroleum products.
