By Coronavirus numbers continue to rise
The rising number of COVID-19 cases is a situation that the Ministry of Health is concerned about. To mitigate it, the ministry has adopted and enhanced approach to address the spread of the virus in the country with the approach centered on the communities.
The government is working closely with various community-based groups which include, non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders, to continue educating people on how to contain the spread of the virus.
Nairobi recorded 28, Mombasa 21, Kilifi 3, Kiambu 2, Machakos 2, Kisii, Bungoma, Uasin Gishu have one case each.
This approach has ensured that correct information reaches households to demystify myths and misconceptions of COVID-19 as it is important to achieve behavior change that is necessary for flattening the infection curve.
This approach has also been complemented by over 59,000 trained Community Health Volunteers who have been deployed in all the 47 counties and so far been able to reach over 12 million households.
The ministry has also launched the Home-based Isolation and Care protocols in line with WHO guidelines and international best practices. This comes with the increase of positive cases hence threatening to overburden the healthcare systems.
With counties such as Nairobi, Mombasa, Busia, and Kajiado continuing to experience an upsurge of infections and majority being asymptomatic, it was practical for the ministry to roll out a home-based program
In regard to this, 59 people have tested positive from a pooled sample of 2,354 tested in the last 24 hours bringing the total number of positive cases to 4,797 in the country.73 patients have however been discharged from the hospital and sadly 2 people succumbed to death from the virus.
