Safaricom Unveils Ofa Ya Boda Boda for Riders and Drivers
Safaricom has launched Ofa Ya Boda Boda and Bundle Ya Deree, two new packages designed for Kenya’s transport operators. The offers combine affordable voice and data bundles with fuel discounts, subsidized insurance, and financial wellness support.
The solutions also provide free access to essential apps such as Google Maps and ride-hailing platforms. As a result, drivers and riders can stay connected throughout their workday.
To improve safety and security, Safaricom has included subsidized insurance covers against accidents, illness, or loss of income. Operators will also benefit from financial literacy and road safety training.
In addition, Safaricom is rolling out Safire Connect forums, where riders and drivers learn entrepreneurship skills as well as digital and AI fluency.

Empowering Transport Operators and Boosting the Economy
The new packages align with Safaricom’s ongoing efforts to empower transport workers with affordable 4G-enabled devices. These devices help drivers and riders bridge the digital divide and unlock new online earning opportunities.
Soon, drivers on the Bundle Ya Deree plan will enjoy fuel discounts every Friday on Shell FuelSave Unleaded and V-Power at all Shell stations across Kenya.
Patrick Masinde, Retail Manager at Vivo Energy Kenya, said: “We understand the challenges faced by transport operators, especially with the rising cost of operations. Through our partnership with Safaricom, the fuel discounts will ease this burden.”
Fawzia Ali-Kimanthi, Chief Consumer Business Officer at Safaricom PLC, added: “Our purpose is to transform lives by empowering people with opportunities and knowledge. With Ofa Ya Boda Boda and Bundle Ya Deree, we provide connectivity, safety, insurance, and financial empowerment in one package.”
The transport sector plays a vital role in Kenya’s economy. According to the KNBS 2025 Economic Survey, it accounted for 4.4% of GDP in 2024. The country has over 1.4 million registered motorcycles, creating more than one million jobs. Riders earn between KES 500 and 1,500 daily, contributing nearly KES 1 billion in income every day.
By tackling high costs, safety risks, and financial vulnerability, Safaricom’s new solutions position the company as a trusted partner for transport operators. Ultimately, the goal is to help drivers and riders work smarter, save more, and build secure futures.
Boda boda riders can access Ofa Ya Boda by dialing 5448#, while online cab drivers can subscribe to Bundle Ya Deree via 5446#.
