The 12-day immersion brings together customers from four East African markets to explore new markets, technology and business partnerships.

NCBA has brought together more than 100 Commercial and SME Banking customers from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda for a 12-day business immersion in China.

The programme marks its 10th anniversary since launching in 2016. This year, it has also grown into a regional platform linking East African entrepreneurs with China’s manufacturing and trading ecosystem.

Through the initiative, NCBA helps businesses explore new markets, strengthen supply chains and discover technology. In addition, participants can build relationships that support future growth.

The programme reflects NCBA’s Banking on Belief philosophy. It empowers business ambition through access, exposure and meaningful connections.

Building Connections Beyond Business

The delegation’s experience combines business engagements with cultural immersion. For instance, participants have toured the iconic Great Wall of China.

They also attended a welcome dinner hosted in the presence of Kenya’s Ambassador to China, H.E. Willy Bett.

Meanwhile, the engagements have highlighted opportunities for Kenyan businesses to expand imports and exports. Participants are also exploring digital commerce, electric mobility and clean energy.

Cultural visits have added another dimension to the journey. They allow entrepreneurs to connect with China’s heritage while strengthening relationships with fellow business owners from across East Africa.

Exploring Technology and Industry

The delegation has visited Beifang Automotive Education Group to explore automotive technology and technical training.

Participants have also toured SANY’s Nankou Industrial Park. There, they experienced machinery, engines and renewable energy solutions firsthand.

These visits provide practical insights into technologies and industrial systems. As a result, customers can identify ideas that may inform their business decisions.

For SMEs and larger enterprises, such exposure can reveal new suppliers and products. It can also help businesses explore ways to improve operations and strengthen supply chains.

Next Stop: Guangzhou and the Canton Fair

Following the Beijing engagements, the programme moves to Guangzhou. The next phase will focus on core business engagements, including exposure to the Canton Fair.

Participants will also have opportunities to connect with manufacturers, suppliers and potential business partners.

These connections could help East African businesses explore international trade relationships. Furthermore, they may open doors to partnerships that support expansion beyond domestic markets.

Banking Beyond Transactions

The China immersion highlights NCBA’s role beyond financing transactions. Through market exposure and business networks, the bank helps customers explore opportunities beyond their home markets.

More importantly, these experiences can help businesses understand the relationships, knowledge and financial solutions needed for international trade.

As the programme enters its Guangzhou phase, the focus remains on turning exposure into opportunity. For East African entrepreneurs, that could mean stronger supply chains, new partnerships and access to global markets.
