Kenya’s shift towards electric mobility is gaining momentum as financial institutions and mobility companies explore new ways to make electric vehicles more accessible to businesses and public transport operators.

NCBA Group has partnered with BasiGo to support the financing of 1,000 electric vehicles, combining asset finance and leasing to help operators transition to cleaner transport without the pressure of a large upfront investment.

Financing designed around transport businesses

The partnership gives PSV SACCOs, established operators and individual SACCO members different financing options for adding electric vehicles to their fleets.

PSV SACCOs and established PSV companies can access financing of up to 90% of the asset value over 60 months, while individual SACCO members can access up to 80% over 48 months. Both options come with a discounted processing fee of 1.5%.

BasiGo’s Pay-As-You-Drive model adds another option, allowing operators to access electric vehicles through a structure designed around vehicle usage rather than requiring the full purchase cost upfront.

This approach is particularly relevant for transport businesses, where fuel, maintenance and vehicle acquisition costs can significantly affect operating margins.

Building a cleaner transport ecosystem

NCBA’s partnership with BasiGo goes beyond vehicle financing. It reflects a broader push to connect capital with sustainable mobility solutions and support businesses as they adapt to a changing economy.

The Bank has committed KES 2 billion to e-mobility financing and says it has already invested more than KES 0.8 billion in sustainable mobility assets across the Group.

For BasiGo, access to financing remains critical to expanding electric mobility in Kenya. The company provides electric bus solutions and works with public transport operators seeking to introduce cleaner vehicles into their fleets.

The partnership also supports NCBA’s Change the Story agenda, which focuses on mobilising green and sustainable finance for solutions that create both economic and environmental value.

As Kenya’s electric mobility market develops, partnerships such as this could help address one of the biggest barriers to adoption: access to affordable and flexible financing.

By bringing together banking, vehicle financing and electric mobility solutions, NCBA and BasiGo are creating more pathways for transport operators to modernise their fleets while contributing to Kenya’s transition towards cleaner transport.
