Jumia Black Friday 2026 Highlights E-commerce Growth Beyond Nairobi
Two-thirds of Jumia Kenya’s active customers live outside Nairobi, while physical-goods sales value grew 23% in the second quarter of 2026.
Jumia will launch its 2026 Black Friday campaign on 30 October as online shopping continues to grow across Kenya. The campaign comes as more customers shop online beyond Nairobi, creating new opportunities for brands and local businesses.
Jumia’s physical-goods Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) in Kenya grew by 23% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026. Meanwhile, Kenya accounted for 15% of the company’s physical-goods GMV during the same period.
Jumia Black Friday Reflects E-commerce Growth Beyond Nairobi
Jumia Kenya’s JForce data for the first half of 2026 shows that 67.6% of its active customers live outside Nairobi. In comparison, 32.4% are based in the capital.
Kiambu accounts for 10.5% of active customers, followed by Mombasa at 5.9%, Nakuru at 5.0% and Kajiado at 4.2%.
These figures highlight the growing reach of online retail across the country. As a result, e-commerce platforms are connecting consumers with businesses beyond their immediate locations.
For Kenyan small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), online marketplaces offer an opportunity to reach customers in different regions. Furthermore, campaigns such as Black Friday can help sellers showcase their products to a wider audience.

Smartphones and Household Goods Drive Online Shopping
Shopping trends on the Jumia app also offer insights into customer preferences. Mobile accessories, smart TVs, smartphones and kettles are among the leading entry products for new customers.
According to Vinod Goel, Managing Director of Jumia East Africa, the growth of online retail beyond Nairobi is a significant development.
“The bigger story is where Kenya’s online growth is coming from. Two in three of our active customers are now outside Nairobi, while physical-goods GMV grew 23% in the second quarter. That tells us e-commerce is becoming a more national retail channel.
“At the same time, the online basket is broadening from smartphones and televisions to household and everyday products. Black Friday brings these shifts into focus and gives Kenyan sellers, SMEs and brands an opportunity to reach consumers at scale,” Goel said.
Additionally, Jumia’s data shows that 82% of its audience is aged between 18 and 44. This points to the role of younger, mobile-first consumers in Kenya’s online retail market.
Jumia Black Friday Features Brands Across Multiple Categories
The 2026 campaign will cover a wide range of products, from electronics and household appliances to beauty products and sports equipment. It will also feature less conventional offerings, including cows.
Participating brands include Xiaomi, L’Oréal, Nivea, Vision Plus, Itel, Oraimo, Haier, Hisense, Lyons, Electromate, Decathlon, Safaricom and Nairobi Sports House.
The campaign will also extend beyond digital channels. For example, Jumia plans to use pickup-station activations, agents and regional radio to engage customers outside Nairobi.
Through these activities, the company aims to reach consumers across different regions while connecting shoppers with a broad range of products and sellers.
As Black Friday begins on 30 October, the campaign will put the spotlight on Kenya’s expanding online retail market and the growing role of consumers beyond the capital.
