Ruto “Stop Fueling Ethnic Tensions”

Statements made by the President and other leaders in Vihiga County on Saturday risked taking the country back to the chaos witnessed after the 2007 elections.

Yesterday, Ruto’s allies took Uhuru’s rhetoric for a statement of fact, with the DP describing the sentiments as overtaken by events and degenerative. His troops had earlier on criticized the statement, expressing shock that it had come from their leader.

“We cannot degenerate (to this level) because when I supported Uhuru, it was not because of his tribe but his agenda. I supported him knowing very well that Kibaki was Kikuyu. It was deliberate so that we end this politics of tribe and hatred,” said the DP.

Speaking at the House of Hope Church in Kayole, Ruto told of how some of the political leaders tried to stop him from backing the president because he was the son of the founding Head of State, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.

While it was not a must for him to ascend to the presidency, he said, every Kenyan must be invited to the negotiating table, in spite of their background or income.

“Don’t tell us about tribes; we want to have a conversation about every hustle. Don’t tell us that we want to discuss power, yes we discuss power to be shared by the big boys and us the leaders we must also have a conversation about empowerment, about ordinary people to chase their dreams as well,” the DP said.

“It’s not negotiable. If anybody is uncomfortable with that conversation or it’s difficult for whatever reason, unfortunately, we must have it,” he added

Earlier, President Kenyatta, during the burial of Mama Hannah Atsianzale, the mother of ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, said the time had come for Kikuyu and Kalenjin communities and let other tribes rule Kenya.
