EPK Staff Set for 14% Wage Increase Under New CBA
More than 8,000 employees will receive a 7% pay rise this year and a further 7% increase in 2027.
More than 8,000 employees of Eastern Produce Kenya (EPK) are set to receive a 14% general wage increase following the signing of an updated Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between the company and the Kenya Plantation and Agricultural Workers Union (KPAWU).
Under the agreement, EPK employees will receive a 7% general wage increase in 2026, backdated to January. A further 7% increase will take effect next year, bringing the total wage adjustment to 14%.
EPK links wage review to employee welfare
Speaking during the signing ceremony, EPK Company Director Leah Kibii Chirchir said the company considers employee welfare an important part of its corporate strategy.
She said the wage review reflects EPK’s recognition of the contribution employees make to the company’s operations and the production of Kenyan tea for international markets.
“Our employees are at the heart of our business. Every day, through their dedication and hard work, they contribute to EPK’s success and the quality of the tea we produce,” said Chirchir.
“We therefore welcome this review as an important step towards supporting the welfare and livelihoods of workers in the agricultural sector.”
The company said the agreement forms part of its broader approach to shared prosperity and stakeholder engagement.
Atwoli commends EPK’s industrial relations
KPAWU Secretary General Francis Atwoli, who attended the signing, acknowledged the challenging operating environment facing tea growers and other agricultural businesses.
However, he described EPK as one of the leading companies in the sector in terms of compliance with industrial relations requirements.
“At KPAWU, we recognise the role large tea growers such as EPK are playing in national development, especially in the employment sector. As their industrial relations partner, we shall continue to extend our support for such partners,” said Atwoli.
The updated CBA provides a framework for implementing the revised wage structure while supporting continued engagement between EPK and its employees.
EPK said it will continue working with relevant stakeholders to implement the agreement while maintaining its focus on sustainable operations, quality tea production and employee wellbeing.
