KWS Aircraft Crashes In Nanyuki Killing Pilot, Passenger

Two people were killed on Thursday evening after the plane they were in, crashed moments after take-off at the Nanyuki Airstrip.
The Kenya Wildlife Service said in a statement that the two were a pilot and a passenger.

The plane which is under the National Air Support Department had just completed a routine patrol as Solio Rhino Sanctuary and was en route to Meru National Park.

“KWS is deeply saddened by the loss of two members of staff aboard a two-seater Husky aircraft registration number 5Y-KWL, which crashed immediately after take-off from Nanyuki Civil Airport. The two are a pilot and a passenger.  The aircraft which is under the National Air Support Department had just completed a routine patrol at Soho Rhino Sanctuary and was enroute to Meru National Park” the statement from corporate communication said.

KWS said that in collaboration with Mountain Rescue, its team was on the ground for evacuation operations.

The cause of the crash is yet to be established.

Last year in November, another aircraft belonging to the company crashed killing a trainee.

The accident occurred at Orly Airpark during routine training exercises.

The plane was an AutoGyro aircraft model MTOSport2010, registration 5Y-KWV which is used for park patrols.
