By Governor Kiraitu Waives Penalties On Revenue Charges
Due to the ongoing surge in the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi has extended the payment period for business permits, licenses, and rates by one month.
The waiver will last until the end of April 2021, during which no penalties will be imposed on those who have not yet cleared their payments.
The final date for payment of the charges was March 31, 2021. While issuing the statement, Deputy Governor Hon. Titus Ntuchiu who is also the County Minister for Finance said the Governor has also waived all charges for matatu operators plying the Meru-Nairobi route until further notice, because of the ongoing lockdown of Nairobi County.

Hon. Ntuchiu noted that Meru County cannot wave charges and fees for businesses as has been the case in some of the locked-down counties because businesses are running normally to a large extent in Meru as compared to those counties.
He dismissed propaganda that Meru County Government has doubled or increased charges and fees for businesses, noting that all fees being charged remain the same and have not been reviewed upwards and that they are well aligned to the County Finance Act.
Hon. Ntuchiu urged Meru residents not to be fooled into dragging politics into matters of County revenue collection because it is key to the delivery of better services and development.
