Gospel And Pleasure

It is so unfortunate that some gospel artistes in Kenya and other parts of the world are preaching water and taking wine. It is now a worrying trend in that the artistes are not taking the lead in the morality or decency they own up in the gospel they represent.

Gospel music industry has been linked with some questionable scandalous behaviors that paint it the bad way.

The question is, are we better than Christ that we should seek fame?

There is a new normal that the gospel artistes are collaborating with secular artistes to produce songs. Well, they say “You cannot serve two masters” and this has led to the production of meaningless songs that cannot even be played in church.

However much we argue, some denounce the act saying such gospel artistes have lost their direction in preaching the word of God while others argue that one should work with whoever they want without being judged.

Recently, some gospel artistes were trending after being accused of sexually assaulting a young lady. Some are publicly engaging in alcoholism and drug abuse and this would bring a different perspective to “their” fans.

Earlier, you would be rebuked if you wore a dress that is two or three-inch above the knee or any revealing and tight dress. This was done so as not to distract the solemnity in the church and the audience rather will be concerned only on the gospel message of the music.

Today, the dress code is pathetic. Some are thumps up for it saying it is the heart that matters while another group says decent dressing should be practiced by these artists. Paul Nzioki from St Joseph Catholic Church says “I have seen men gospel artists wearing earrings and rugged jeans while performing for the congregation. For me, it is not right at all. I’m telling you the world is coming to an end” He says while shaking his head.

Wearing the appropriate attire as a gospel singer develops a sense of integrity that people will look upon you and someone up there will surely appreciate if you do.

The blessings of God are not for sale. And miracles are not for sale. And prosperity is not for sale.

It is clear that the gospel artists are now focused on money and fame rather than spreading the gospel of the Lord to his people. The artists want to be popular through controversial music and collabos’ so that their music can sell.

Jesus performed miracles and he would say “Do not tell anyone” This is because he did not want to be famous because of what it would cost him.

The question is, are we better than Christ that we should seek fame?
