Absa Doubles Down on Women-Owned Suppliers, Wins IFC Award
Absa Bank Kenya PLC has stepped up its efforts to support women entrepreneurs.
In just four years, the bank tripled the number of women-owned businesses in its supply chain.
In 2021, only 6% of its suppliers were women-led.
Today, that number stands at 18%.
This impressive growth recently earned Absa special recognition from the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
The award came under the Sourcing2Equal Kenya Program, which applauds companies creating inclusive supply chains.
Pushing for Greater Inclusion by 2025
Absa isn’t stopping there.
The bank now targets a 30% diversity rate in its supply chain by the end of 2025.
It aims to increase opportunities for women, youth, and people with disabilities.

This bold commitment is part of its wider mission to support inclusive growth across Africa.
Speaking at the award ceremony, Gilbert Ngetich, Absa’s Head of Sourcing and Commercial Services, emphasized the bank’s purpose.
“We are not just funding businesses. We’re transforming procurement to open doors for underserved groups,” he said.
The IFC hosted the award ceremony alongside the Women Entrepreneurs Finance Initiative (We-Fi) and the Government of Norway.
Ten Kenyan corporates were recognized for their progress in inclusive sourcing.
Better Access to Finance for Women Entrepreneurs
Absa sees this recognition as more than an award.
It marks a shift toward stronger support for women-led businesses.
“This award proves our commitment to improving access to finance for underrepresented groups,” Mr. Ngetich added.
As the Sourcing2Equal Kenya Program enters its next phase, Absa will continue to unlock capital and markets for women entrepreneurs.
The bank’s efforts show a clear message—equity in business isn’t just possible, it’s powerful.
