NCBA Turns Mazingira Day Into Action for Forest Restoration
Through tree planting, mangrove conservation and environmental education, NCBA is advancing its sustainability agenda and supporting its goal of growing 10 million trees by 2030.
Turning Environmental Commitment Into Action
NCBA is strengthening its environmental sustainability agenda through initiatives that support forest restoration, community participation and climate resilience.
At Kinale Forest, the bank joined forces with the NCBA Insurance team, NCBA Citizenship Club members, the Kenya Defence Forces and local communities to plant 20,000 trees.
Speaking during the event, Stella Njunge, Managing Director and CEO of NCBA Insurance Company Limited, encouraged collective action towards environmental conservation. She emphasised the role everyone plays in building a greener future.
The exercise demonstrates how partnerships can bring different groups together to support forest restoration. It also highlights the importance of sustained efforts to protect natural resources.
Protecting Coastal Ecosystems
NCBA has also supported environmental conservation along Kenya’s coast. The bank joined the First Lady’s Mazingira Awards (FLAMA) at the Miritini Mangrove Planting Site in Mombasa.
The mangrove-growing initiative contributes to NCBA’s Change The Story commitment to grow 10 million trees by 2030.
Mangroves play an important role in coastal ecosystems. They provide habitats for marine life, help protect coastlines and support communities whose livelihoods depend on these environments.
However, protecting these ecosystems requires more than a single planting exercise. Continued care, community participation and long-term partnerships are essential to sustaining restoration efforts.

Investing in Young Environmental Champions
NCBA’s partnership with FLAMA goes beyond tree planting. Since 2023, the initiative has reached 4,585 learners through environmental education and conservation activities.
These programmes help young people understand their role in protecting the planet. They also encourage environmental responsibility beyond schools and organised conservation events.
In addition, NCBA rewarded 98 FLAMA winners with Junior Savings Accounts funded with KSh10,000 each. The initiative promotes both environmental stewardship and financial literacy among young people.
By connecting conservation with financial education, NCBA is helping nurture a generation equipped to make informed decisions about the environment and their financial futures.
Making Sustainability a Shared Responsibility
Mazingira Day’s theme, “Our Environment, Our Responsibility,” reflects a commitment that goes beyond a single activity.
From planting trees at Kinale Forest to supporting mangrove conservation in Mombasa, NCBA’s initiatives highlight the value of collective action in protecting Kenya’s natural resources.
The bank’s ambition to grow 10 million trees by 2030 also underscores the importance of maintaining momentum beyond commemorative events.
Ultimately, protecting the environment takes sustained partnerships, continued care and shared responsibility. By combining restoration efforts with environmental education, NCBA is contributing to a greener future for communities and generations to come.
