Safaricom Sponsors Kipkemboi Film to Promote Kenyan Storytelling
Safaricom has announced its sponsorship of Kipkemboi, a Kenyan-Canadian film that champions local storytelling and creative talent. This move supports the telco’s goal to empower Kenyan content creators and expand access to authentic, homegrown stories.
Filmed in Kenya and Canada, the movie follows Kipkemboi, a gifted youth from a rural village who builds a powerful algorithm, attracting global attention and unforeseen consequences. The film is a blend of technology, ambition, and Kenyan identity capturing the essence of resilience and innovation.
Safaricom celebrated the partnership with a red-carpet premiere attended by cast, crew, tech partners, and stakeholders in the entertainment sector. Additionally, Kipkemboi is now streaming on Pasha, a platform by Symbiotic Media. Viewers can watch it for KES 100 (30-day pass) or KES 150 (with 1.5GB data) via USSD 54446#.

Kipkemboi is written by Joel Richardson and produced by Canada’s Jennifer Jonas and Leonard Farlinger, in collaboration with Kenya’s Appie Matere. Directed by award-winning Nigerian filmmaker Charles Uwagbai, the cast includes Abel Mutua, Chichi Seii, David Cubitt, and Vinessa Antoine.
The film has already received international recognition, with awards from the 2024 African Film For Impact Festival, the Directors Guild of Canada Awards, and the 20th Africa Movie Academy Awards.
