6 Terror Suspects Arrested In Loitoktok Appear In Court
Six terror suspects were Wednesday arraigned in a Loitoktok court hours after their arrest.
The suspects were arrested Tuesday night by the local Directorate of Criminal Investigation officers.
Abdullahi Abdi Haamud, Abdinoh Mahumud Hassan, Abdirahman Abdullahi Jimale, Abdirahman Mohamed Abaas, Yussuf Hussein Muhamed and Abdilahi Shukri were arrested at Mbirikan road block, Loitoktok Sub County.
Meshack Muli, a driver of the matatu belonging to Super Coach Company in which the six were onboard from Nairobi was also arrested.
The suspects will remain in police custody for the next 10 days to allow DCI officers to conclude investigations.
DCI officer Mary Wambete had applied for the suspects to be detained for 14 days in order for their counterparts from the Antiterrorism Unit to interrogate them.
In her application, Ms Wambete had argued that the suspects’ names appearing on their Somali Republic passports differed from those on their Kenyan IDs.
The DCI officer told the court that the matatu driver is accused of not having a travel manifest, showing the details of travellers in his vehicle which is a requirement for all long-distance public service vehicles.

Elsewhere, four people were this morning killed when a vehicle they were travelling in ran over an Improvised Explosive Device planted on the road in Andaki area, Wajir County.
Police said the incident happened at about 11 am at Erga along Wajir-Gerile Road, a few kilometres from the porous Kenya-Somalia border.
The four were travelling in a land cruiser and are believed to have been carrying foodstuffs when the vehicle ran over an IED.
Confirming the incident, the outgoing North Eastern Regional Police boss Rono Bunei said response teams were on the ground pursuing those behind the latest incident.
He said the response team including Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has been deployed to the scene as investigations into the incident continue.
Police suspect the explosion was planted by Al-Shabaab militants operating in the area.
The incident comes three days after at least 8 passengers were killed and 13 others injured in a similar incident along the Arabia-Mandera Highway.
