Safaricom Hook, Sprite Equip Africa Nazarene Students with Digital Income Skills
Students at Africa Nazarene University are gaining practical tools to turn creativity into income, thanks to a new digital skills initiative led by Safaricom in partnership with Sprite.
The training, held in Ongata Rongai, formed part of the ongoing ‘Hook’d on Fresh’ youth masterclass series. It focused on digital literacy, content monetisation, and financial management key pillars for success in today’s creator economy.
From Content Creation to Income Generation
During the session, students learned how to build sustainable income streams using social media platforms.
Industry creators, including Carrie Wahu and Tileh Pacbro, shared real-life experiences on growing audiences and monetising content.
They broke down practical strategies. For instance, they explained how consistency, audience engagement, and brand partnerships can turn content into a viable business.
As a result, students gained a clearer understanding of how to navigate and succeed in the digital space.

Building Financial Discipline Among Young Creators
Beyond content creation, the session also addressed financial literacy.
Alexander Matheka introduced students to the Ziidi Money Market Fund. He encouraged them to adopt a savings and investment culture early.
Therefore, the programme not only inspires creativity but also promotes long-term financial stability.
Safaricom’s Chief Consumer Business Officer, Fawzia Ali Kimanthi, said the initiative aims to empower youth economically.
“Content creation has become a major opportunity for young people. We want to support them and help them turn their passion into a source of livelihood,” she said.
Expanding Access to Digital Opportunities
The Africa Nazarene session builds on earlier engagements across the country.
Recently, the programme stopped in Eldoret, where over 300 students attended a similar masterclass. Each session provides access to tools, mentorship, and industry insights.
At its core, the initiative reflects a shared vision between Safaricom and Sprite.
By combining connectivity with culture, the partners aim to unlock opportunities for Kenya’s creative generation.
Preparing Youth for the Digital Economy
Importantly, the ‘Hook’d on Fresh’ series goes beyond skills training.
It equips young people with the mindset and tools needed to thrive in a fast-evolving digital economy.
As more youth turn to content creation, programmes like this are helping bridge the gap between talent and income.
In doing so, they are shaping a new generation of creators who are not only skilledbut also financially empowered.
