Safaricom, through its youth platform Safaricom Hook Circle, has equipped more than 5,000 students at Kiambu National Polytechnic with practical skills to improve employability and prepare them for the digital economy.

The two-day programme brought together students, industry experts and learning partners. Together, they delivered hands-on training, mentorship and career guidance.

Students from the ICT and Automotive Engineering departments participated in practical sessions, technology demonstrations and career talks. In addition, they received training on data privacy, fraud awareness and financial literacy.

Bridging the skills gap

Safaricom partnered with Digi Farm, Power Learn Project (PLP) and other industry experts to deliver the programme.

As a result, students explored opportunities in technology, agritech, innovation and entrepreneurship. They also gained practical insights into today’s workplace and future careers.

Speaking during the event, Fawzia Ali Kimanthi, Chief Consumer Business Officer at Safaricom PLC, said the programme connects students with industry experts and practical learning opportunities.

She noted that the initiative helps bridge the gap between classroom learning and workplace expectations. Furthermore, it prepares young people for employment, entrepreneurship and lifelong growth.

“Our commitment is to continue creating opportunities that empower the next generation to reach their full potential,” she said.

Building future-ready talent

The Kiambu National Polytechnic event forms part of the wider Safaricom Hook Circle programme, which focuses on improving youth employability across Kenya.

Additionally, the event brought together stakeholders from the education and private sectors. Their collaboration aims to equip young people with market-driven skills that match changing workforce needs.

As Kenya’s digital economy continues to expand, partnerships between learning institutions and industry are becoming increasingly important.

Expanding across Kenya

Since launching in 2023, Safaricom Hook Circle has reached more than one million young people across Meru, Mombasa, Nairobi, Kakamega, Siaya and Nyeri counties.

Going forward, Safaricom plans to expand the programme to all 47 counties.

Young people aged 10 to 24 years can join the Safaricom Hook community by dialling *555# or registering through the Safaricom App.
