It is a rapid strategy mobilizing the efforts of various actors from the state, county government and the private sector to build up synergies to support MSEs who are the most severely hit by the brunt of the pandemic. Traders will benefit from Sh80.8 million in loans over the next two years

The plan has been prepared through a consultative process to identify the strategic focus areas which will facilitate the envisaged rebirth of a vibrant MSE Sector. These focal areas are the heartbeat of the recovery strategy.

This recovery strategy is hence a response by the County Government of Meru to facilitate MSEs to regain ground and to reverse the effects of the pandemic. It is an elaborate analysis of the effects of the disease and a plan by the county government over the short run targeting MSEs in Meru County.

The plan is organized into five sections which include an introduction into the prevailing situation, the identified key result areas, Implementation framework, and Monitoring & Evaluation.

While the responsibility to implement the plan is vested on the County Directorate of Trade, a joint steering committee has been identified to oversee and guide the process. This is to promote a sense of a joint implementation approach, promote execution effectiveness and leverage on varied mandates and capabilities of stakeholders.

In addition, a robust monitoring and evaluation mechanism will also be applied to ensure the achievement of planned outcomes. This will be undertaken in compliance with the set-out Meru County M&E framework.

The county is therefore upbeat that this thoroughly thought out plan will be the antidote to the reduced local economic activity which has caused loss of jobs, incomes and decent living. It will hence go to lengths to ensure full support to the actualization of the plan, broadening partnerships and collaboration with all relevant stakeholders.
