Empowering Young Women Through the Bado Binti Project
Polycom Girls leads the Bado Binti Project, a program that equips teenage mothers with financial and career development skills.
This initiative helps young women achieve economic independence, fight unemployment, and explore entrepreneurship.
Stories of Transformation
Winnie Muya: Overcoming Adversity
Winnie Muya grew up in Kibera. In 2020, she joined Polycom while pregnant.
The organization helped her access medical care and return to school after childbirth.

Despite discouragement, even from her mother, she remained determined.
She now plans to study photography and community development. “Teen mothers often lack support. Many are rejected by their families. Polycom changed my life by engaging parents and meeting our basic needs. Today, my mother is proud of me.”
Lavender Akinyi: Creating Safe Spaces for Teen Mothers
At 19, Lavender Akinyi joined Polycom as a young mother.
She gained confidence, developed public speaking skills, and built a strong professional network.

Now working in digital marketing, she leads Women for Teens, a program connecting teen mothers with mentors.
“Many teen mothers feel isolated. I faced rejection too. Women for Teens creates a sense of belonging and facilitates discussions on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). These conversations help young mothers understand their options and future possibilities.”
Polycom’s support helped Lavender return to university to study community development and social work.
Financial Literacy and Economic Resilience
David Odhiambo: Financial Literacy Trainer
David Odhiambo led financial literacy training for teenage mothers in the Bado Binti Project.
He focused on budgeting, saving, and financial decision-making to secure their futures.
“Teen mothers face social stigma and financial struggles. Many believed they earned too little to save. We showed them that saving, no matter how small, is the first step toward financial independence.”

Polycom’s Mission and Expansion
Jane Anyango: Founder of Polycom Development Project
Jane Anyango founded Polycom in 2003 to combat sexual violence against young girls.
The organization has since expanded to support teenage mothers, young women, and older women through education and vocational training.
“Bado Binti is a big dream. Teenage pregnancies remain high, and many girls are primary caregivers. We aim to expand this initiative nationwide to support more young women.”
Partnerships for Greater Impact
Polycom collaborates with organizations like UNFPA, Womankind Worldwide, and Equity Bank.
These partnerships help expand programs, provide training, and offer financial support.
Mark Kidenyi, a financial literacy trainer at Equity Bank, highlights the importance of economic empowerment.
“Financial knowledge alone is not enough. We equip teenage mothers with entrepreneurial skills so they can secure jobs and create opportunities.”
Why Bado Binti Matters
With 5.34 million unemployed youths in Kenya, Bado Binti plays a crucial role in empowering young women.
By providing financial literacy, career training, and entrepreneurial skills, the initiative builds a self-sufficient generation that contributes to economic growth.
Call to Action
We urge stakeholders, media houses, and community leaders to support this initiative.
Together, we can empower young women, reduce unemployment, and create a brighter future for Kenya.
