Dismus Mukua emerged as the overall winner at this year’s Kenya Air Force Golf Club Championship (KAFGC) final, held at the Moi Air Base in Eastleigh, Nairobi, capping off a fiercely competitive tournament that has grown into a key fixture in Kenya’s amateur golf calendar.

Mukua delivered a standout performance to edge out defending champion Major Don Tororei, alongside strong contenders Fredrick Wagura and Patrick Kinywa, who finished as second and third runners-up respectively.

A Tournament Growing in Prestige

The championship, sponsored by Vivo Energy Kenya, ran for seven months and drew participants from multiple clubs across the country, including Thika Barracks, Kisii Golf Club, and Ruiru Sports Club. Its growing reach highlights the increasing competitiveness and depth of golf talent in Kenya.

Speaking during the award ceremony, Mark Senteu, Commercial Manager at Vivo Energy Kenya, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting sports development and community engagement.

“Our collaboration with the Kenya Air Force Golf Club reflects our vision of creating sustainable impact within the communities we serve. By sponsoring this tournament, we aim to deepen our connection with our customers while supporting the growth of talent across all levels of the game,” he said.

Recognising Excellence Across Categories

Beyond the overall winner, the championship celebrated excellence across multiple categories.

Dr. Ayub Shitesewa claimed top honors in the Guest category, outperforming Martin Kiambi of Ruiru Sports Club and Joel Muchanga from Thika Barracks. Anita Nyaguto stood out as the Junior winner, while Brigadier Wesonga was crowned the Senior champion.

In the ladies’ category, Captain Joy Njangi took the top spot, while Major Wafula Bwire secured the men’s title. Harun Wanyama was named the gross winner, rounding off a diverse and competitive field of champions.

Strengthening Partnerships and Talent Development

The Chairman of the Kenya Air Force Golf Club, Col. Evans Oduma, lauded Vivo Energy Kenya for its continued support over the past three years, noting the role of partnerships in elevating the tournament.

“We appreciate Vivo Energy Kenya for partnering with us over the last three years and look forward to continuing this collaboration in the future,” he said.

Through sustained sponsorship, Vivo Energy Kenya—marketers of Shell products in the country—has played a key role in growing the championship into a competitive platform for nurturing and developing golf talent.

Driving the Future of Kenyan Golf

As the KAFGC continues to expand its footprint, the tournament is increasingly positioning itself as a launchpad for emerging talent while reinforcing the importance of corporate partnerships in sports development.

Mukua’s victory not only underscores his individual brilliance but also reflects the rising standards of competition within Kenya’s golfing scene.
