Over 300 Youth Gain Digital and Financial Skills

Safaricom PLC, through its youth platform Safaricom Hook, partnered with The Coca-Cola Company’s Sprite brand to host the Hook’d on Fresh Masterclass Series at University of Eldoret.

The session trained more than 300 youth from the university and surrounding areas. Participants learned content creation, monetization, and digital skills needed in today’s economy.

Industry mentors led the training sessions. These included Collo Blue and Tileh Pacbro. They shared hands-on tips and real-world experiences with aspiring creators.

“I am happy that Safaricom and Sprite brought this masterclass to our university. I have learned that platforms like Safaricom Hook also support studies and research due to affordable internet bundles,” said Norman Kipkurgat, a second-year student.

Eldoret Follows JKUAT Kick-Off

The Eldoret tour follows a similar session at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). That event marked the first edition of the Hook’d on Fresh Masterclass Series.

The initiative aims to equip young Kenyans with digital tools and opportunities.

Fawzia Ali, Chief Consumer Business Officer at Safaricom, said the programme supports the next generation of creators.

“The Hook’d on Fresh campaign equips Kenyan creators with skills, tools, and inspiration to grow in the digital economy. We also encourage youth to adopt a saving culture early and explore opportunities in tech,” she said.

Nationwide Tour and Youth Opportunities

Safaricom and Sprite will take the masterclass series to universities across the country. The programme combines digital training with financial literacy.

Participants also learn about tools such as Ziidi Invest and Save to support their daily financial needs.

The partners have also launched the Hook’d on Fresh User Generated Content (UGC) challenge. The competition invites youth to create short-form videos across music, sports, fashion, and comedy.

Participants can post content on TikTok and Instagram using #HookdOnFresh and #SafaricomHook. They must tag Sprite Kenya and Safaricom Hook to qualify.

Cash Rewards and Monthly Wins

The challenge will reward 403 creators across nine tiers. Winners will receive between KES 3,000 and KES 20,000. Additional prizes include smartphones and data bundles.

Organisers will announce winners every month.
