Couple Jailed For 20 Years Each For Torturing Their 9-Year-Old Boy
A couple in Embu have been sentenced to 20 years in prison each, for torturing their 9-year old boy for allegedly visiting his grandmother without their consent.
Joseph Ireri Njeru, 42, and his wife Bancy Wanja Nyaga, 30, appeared before Embu Senior Resident Magistrate Juliana Ndeng’eri.
During the hearing, the court heard that, on July 2, 2021, the couple, tied the 9-year-old boy to a sofa chair, and whipped him repeatedly using a dog leash at their home in Njakairi village in Embu West sub-county.
After committing the act, they poured cold water on the chair as the minor remained tied to it for two days.
The boys’ siblings later freed him from the seat an act that rendered them into trouble as they were assaulted for rescuing him.
Later on, the children’s uncle later intervened and filed a formal complaint at a nearby police station and the couple was arrested.
The man is said to be the boy’s biological father but the woman is his stepmother.
In her ruling, Judge Ndeng’eri found the two suspects guilty of causing grievous body harm to their child and slapped them with 20 years imprisonment.

“In my time in the Judiciary, I have never been presented with such cases where parents unleashed terror to their own children,” she said.
She further noted that even after torturing the boy, the accused did not even bother to take him to the hospital and hid him for four days lying in bed.
