Bamburi Cement Launches New Ready-Mix Concrete Plant in Mombasa
Bamburi Cement Plc https://ke.linkedin.com/company/bamburi-cement-plc, part of the Pan-African Amsons Group, has launched a new Ready-Mix Concrete Plant in Mombasa County.
The Ksh 100 million Bamburi Cement Ready-Mix Concrete Plant will meet the growing demand for high-quality concrete across Mombasa Island and its surrounding areas.
Located in Bamburi, the facility produces 120 cubic meters of concrete per hour. It can deliver over 10,000 cubic meters of Ready-Mix concrete.
In addition, a fleet of transit mixers, mobile and fixed concrete pumps, and a mobile testing lab support faster deliveries and ensure high standards of quality control.
Amsons Group Cement Cluster CEO Mokate George Ramafoko said the Coast region urgently needs better concrete solutions as engineering standards continue to rise.
“By launching the Bamburi Cement Ready-Mix Concrete Plant, we are directly addressing the use of poor-quality mixes that compromise building strength,” Ramafoko stated.
He pointed out that major projects — including the Mombasa-Malindi Highway, Dongo Kundu Bypass, Makupa Causeway Bridge, and Lamu Port — are fueling a surge in demand for better concrete solutions.

Bamburi Cement Ready-Mix Plant Strengthens Coastal Construction
Furthermore, the Ready-Mix plant supports Bamburi Cement’s broader strategy to expand into new domestic markets following its acquisition by Amsons Group.

“This plant strengthens our foothold at the Coast. It enables quicker deliveries, improves supply chain management, and provides stronger support for large-scale projects,” he added.
Meanwhile, the company sees the Coast region as critical for future growth, given the scale of infrastructure and real estate development underway.
New Concrete Solutions for Coastal and Marine Projects
The Bamburi Cement Ready-Mix Concrete Plant introduces advanced chloride-resistant concrete, designed specifically to withstand aggressive marine conditions.
This new offering tackles a key problem at the Coast, where seawater corrosion severely weakens many structures over time.
According to Bamburi Cement’s Commercial Director Martin Kariuki, many older projects used Ordinary Portland Cement (CEM I), which fails to resist seawater chlorides.
“This RMX plant will use Duracem and Duraplus cements, which significantly enhance concrete durability and protect steel reinforcement,” Kariuki explained.
In addition, the company has steadily expanded its building solutions, adding Ready-Mix and precast concrete products through its Bamburi Special Products (BSP) subsidiary.
Previously, its Ready-Mix operations were only located in Nairobi, although precast facilities existed in both Nairobi and Mombasa.
Looking ahead, Bamburi Cement plans to invest further in the Coast region. It will build an Integrated Clinker Plant in Matuga, Kwale County, as part of Amsons Group’s Ksh 51 billion ($400 million) investment in Kenya over the next three years.
Notably, Kenya’s construction industry is forecast to grow by more than 5 percent annually between 2025 and 2028, according to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics.
