Wao!! Four DCI Lang’ata Officers Freed On Ksh.300K Bail Each In Robbery With Violence Case
Four Lang’ata-based Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers have been freed on a Ksh.300,000 cash bail after allegedly abducting a man and forcefully obtaining money from him.
Anthony Muvaka Mwanza, Cornelius Stephene Wambua, Tom Omomdi Otieno, and Kennedy Omondi Odero were charged with robbery with violence when they appeared in a Nairobi court on Monday.
The four officers are accused of robbing Vincent Ochieng Odembo of 40,000 shillings and $2,400 USD on February 6 at Nextgen Mall on Mombasa Road in Langata Nairobi County.
According to the DCI, Corporal Tom Otieno, the in-charge, transferred Ksh.40,000 from the victim’s M-Pesa account to his own.
“They then proceeded to the victim’s apartment where they took a further USD 2,400 (Ksh. 272, 260) from him, before dumping him at Choma Zone located at Total petrol station along Mombasa Road,” DCI said in a statement.
The victim went to the Akira police station the next day to report the incident, only to find the vehicle he had been bundled into there.
He then rushed to the Serious Crimes Unit at the DCI’s headquarters.
“Investigations were launched immediately and the serious crimes detectives established that the vehicle indeed belonged to DCI Lang’ata. All the four officers have since been arrested and identified positively by the victim, in an identification parade conducted this evening at the DCI headquarters,” the DCI added.
According to the DCI, the rogue officers’ actions were isolated case that and does not reflect the sleuth’s agency’s mandate to serve and protect Kenyans in any way.
The DCI also stated that any officers found guilty of committing crimes while on duty will face severe consequences.
