Meru Governor Address On Meru County Cancer Menace.
In the ongoing robust efforts to address the cancer menace in Meru County, Meru Governor Hon. Kiraitu Murungi has today issued a cheque worth Ksh 1 million to the Meru Hospice which provides palliative care and pain management for our cancer patients.
Meru Hospice will form a long-term partnership with the Meru Mt. Kenya Run LTD Company, a subsidiary of the Meru County Investment Development Corporation (MCIDC), that organizes and manages the annual Meru Mt. Kenya Run whose objective is to raise funds for cancer management and environmental conservation in the County.
This helps the Hospice receive an annual contribution from the event’s proceeds.
Speaking at the event, Kiraitu said “Our county is at advanced stages of the establishment of the Meru Cancer Institute which is one of the only two such projects in Kenya that have been included in this year’s fiscal budget by the National Treasury.”
He added, “With the establishment of four new KMTC campuses (Kanyakine, Miathene, Maua and Kangeta) in our County which has happened under my leadership, we shall train sufficient personnel for cancer management, some of whom will be seconded to Meru Hospice.”
Reassuring his people, the governor said, “I commit that in the next term of my leadership, I will be working on a massive project to bring the Ksh600 million radiotherapy machine to Meru County to relieve the residents of the pain and expenses incurred in traveling to seek the services in Nairobi.”
