Addis Ababa to Host Landmark Summit on Diplomacy, Innovation and Africa’s Future
More than 600 policymakers, business leaders, innovators, academics, and civil society representatives will gather in Addis Ababa on July 29 and 30 for the inaugural World Public Summit Africa.
The summit aims to strengthen Africa’s voice in global affairs and accelerate partnerships that drive development across the continent.
Hosted at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), the event will run under the theme “New World: Africa in Shaping a Common Future.” The World Peoples Assembly is organizing the summit alongside the Global Black Centre and other international partners.
Organizers say the forum will promote dialogue, economic cooperation, and public diplomacy while positioning Africa as a stronger force in global decision-making.
Africa Seeks a Bigger Voice in Global Affairs
The summit comes as African countries push for greater influence in international institutions and global policy discussions.
Organizers argue that governments alone cannot solve today’s challenges. They believe businesses, universities, civil society groups, and citizens must also play a greater role in shaping international cooperation.
“The summit reflects a new approach to international engagement that prioritizes people-to-people cooperation, mutual respect, and shared development goals,” organizers said.
Delegates from Africa, Europe, Asia, the Americas, and the Middle East are expected to attend.
The gathering will feature a high-level plenary session, five thematic platforms, an international business forum, an innovation exhibition, and an awards ceremony.
More than 2,000 additional participants are expected at the closing celebration and concert at the ADWA Memorial Complex.
Innovation, Youth and Business Take Centre Stage
One of the summit’s key themes is innovation and technology.
Experts will discuss artificial intelligence, digital transformation, infrastructure modernization, media innovation, and the future impact of emerging technologies on African economies.
Youth development will also receive significant attention. Discussions will focus on education, employment, entrepreneurship, and leadership opportunities for Africa’s growing young population.
Organizers believe empowering young people remains critical to unlocking the continent’s economic potential.
Another major discussion will focus on sovereignty and resilience. Delegates will explore strategies to strengthen food security, infrastructure, and information systems while improving Africa’s ability to respond to economic and geopolitical shocks.
The summit will also highlight the role of culture in diplomacy. Participants will examine how Africa can use its cultural heritage to strengthen international partnerships and build trust across borders.

Investment Forum to Drive New Partnerships
Business and investment discussions will form a central part of the event.
The International Business Cooperation Platform will bring together investors, entrepreneurs, government officials, and corporate leaders to explore new opportunities across African markets.
Operating under the theme “From Trust Between Peoples to Trust Between Economies,” the forum aims to strengthen commercial ties between African and international partners.
Participants will also visit a 1,200-square-metre innovation exhibition showcasing solutions in fintech, cybersecurity, food technology, education, digital infrastructure, and smart transportation.
The exhibition will demonstrate how innovation can support inclusive growth and sustainable development across the continent.
Delivering Long-Term Impact
Organizers want the summit to create lasting outcomes beyond the two-day event.
Key proposals include establishing an African Network of Public Diplomacy and creating a continental community of public diplomacy leaders.
The summit also seeks to launch a World Peoples Assembly Business Club for Africa and develop a media platform focused on African storytelling and public diplomacy.
Delegates are expected to adopt four major outcome documents. These include an African Communiqué, recommendations for the World Public Summit 2026, proposals to strengthen NGO cooperation, and initiatives to support a public diplomacy media platform.
The Addis Ababa event marks the first of six regional summits planned for 2026. Similar forums will take place in India, the Arab world, Latin America, Europe, and Russia before the flagship World Public Summit.
For Africa, the gathering offers a chance to shape global conversations rather than simply respond to them. It also provides an opportunity to advance a vision built on innovation, sovereignty, cultural exchange, and shared prosperity.
