Top Female Golfers Face Off at KLGU Open
Prestigious Tournament Debuts at Ruiru Sports Club
Elite Golfers Battle for Glory
Regional top lady golfers will compete for honors at the KLGU Open, hosted for the first time at the 18-hole Par 73 Ruiru Sports Club in Kiambu County. The three-day event will take place from Friday, April 4, to Sunday, April 6.
This prestigious tournament, organized by the Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU), introduces a thrilling new format. Alongside the 54-hole World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) tournament, a 36-hole subsidiary event will offer more competitive play opportunities. As a result, more golfers will get the chance to test their skills in a high-stakes environment.
Hosting the KLGU Open for the first time marks a milestone for Ruiru Sports Club. This achievement highlights the club’s growth and the rising prominence of its ladies’ section.
Excitement Builds for the First-Ever KLGU Open at Ruiru
Lady Captain Rodah Mukami assured players that they will compete on a well-prepared course. “The course is in top shape, so players will enjoy a fantastic tournament. Since this is Ruiru’s first time hosting, we want to make it a truly memorable event,” she said.
The subsidiary event will expand participation, allowing more golfers to experience the intensity and prestige of the KLGU Open. Consequently, the tournament is expected to attract both seasoned players and rising stars.
Top Contenders Set for a Fierce Showdown
Among the confirmed participants is Njoro Golf Club’s Mercy Nyanchama, the reigning Golfer of the Year (GOTY) champion for three consecutive years.
“I’m excited to play at Ruiru. Not only is this event a great opportunity to compete, but it also allows me to enjoy the sport and connect with fellow golfers,” said Nyanchama.

Nyanchama currently shares the top GOTY ranking with Eldoret Golf Club’s former Lady Captain Esther Chumo. Both players stand at 20 points, while Golf Park’s Margaret Njoki trails closely with 18 points.
Chumo and Njoki are determined to challenge Nyanchama. Therefore, fans can expect an intense battle at this year’s Open.
East Africa’s Best Compete for the Title
Defending champion Joyce Wanjiru of Kiambu Golf Club will face strong competition from elite amateur players from Tanzania and Uganda.
With the region’s top talent converging in Ruiru, the stage is set for an electrifying showdown. As the competition heats up, many contenders aim to dethrone Wanjiru and claim the prestigious title.
