Tips On How To Introduce Your Partner To Your Family.

Wao! If you are reading this, Congratulations! Your relationship is thriving and is pressing on to the next level. While those other moments of a relationship are filled with an exhilarating mixture of excitement and nerves, meeting the fam can feel 100 percent scary.

You have said I love you, had arguments, kisses, and a fair share of sex and make-up sex but the next level and probably the trickiest, is introducing your partner to your parents. Just thinking about it is nerve-racking!

Here are some tips to help during that introduction.

  1. Keep it as brief as possible.

You all have heard of short and sweet? An hour or a couple of hours at most can do. This will take some of the pressure off, while also saving yourselves the awkwardness of a long weekend visit or stressful three-hour dinner.

  1. Build up their confidence

If you think your SO is nervous about the meeting, then take it upon yourself to sneakily build up their confidence. “Reinforce your partner by highlighting and verbalizing their strengths (what you like most about them) for at least a week prior to meeting the family,”

That way, by the time the day comes, they’ll be confident AF and ready to handle whatever happens.

  1. Remind them that it’s your opinion that matters.

If your parents aren’t all gung-ho about your relationship (for whatever reason), it can help to remind your partner that it’s your opinion that matters. While heading for the intro’, assure him or her that you’ll still love them despite your mom’s comments or your dad’s grilling questions. (And then thank them for being brave and awesome enough to put up with such a scary visit.)

  1. Warn him or her about your grandma

Already, you have someone in your mind that you are sure can ruin your good moments during the introduction bit with off-color jokes. An example is a grandma who’s riddled with old-timey opinions.

Let your SO know that you’ve accepted these lovely people because they’re your family, and your partner will, too. Just let them know ahead of time how they should handle the situation.

  1. Don’t leave them alone for too long

Obviously, the point of the meeting is to have your family know your partner but don’t leave them alone for too long. You can intermittently be showing up and ask if the meeting is doing okay but if the meeting is over dinner, the better, you will be there the whole time.
