Safaricom Hosts Cybersecurity Summit 2025 to Champion Digital Trust
Strengthening Kenya’s Digital Resilience
Safaricom today hosted the Cybersecurity Summit 2025 at the Mövenpick Hotel in Nairobi.
The event, themed “Powering Progress. Securing Growth,” brought together business leaders, government representatives, regulators, and technology experts. Their goal was to explore how Kenya can strengthen its defences against the growing wave of cyber threats.
The summit came at a crucial moment. In the first quarter of 2025, the National Kenya Computer Incident Response Team Coordination Centre (National KE-CIRT/CC) detected more than 2.5 billion cyber threat events.
This marked a sharp rise from the previous quarter. Attacks such as phishing scams, ransomware, and large-scale system disruptions continue to affect key sectors, including finance, healthcare, energy, and government services.
Collaboration for a Safer Digital Future
“Cybercrime is a challenge that no single institution can solve alone. As more Kenyans embrace digital tools, the responsibility to keep them safe becomes greater,” said Peter Ndegwa, Safaricom CEO.
“This summit provides a platform for government, private sector, and civil society to collaborate and ensure that Kenya’s digital growth is anchored on trust and resilience.”

Safaricom has consistently invested in stronger data protection and cybersecurity systems to safeguard its customers.
Beyond defending its network, the company has strengthened privacy practices and earned ISO 27701 certification, a global standard for responsible data management and information security.
Kenya as a Regional Cybersecurity Leader
The Safaricom Cybersecurity Summit 2025 drew participants from multiple sectors, reinforcing Kenya’s position as a regional leader in digital security.
Through collaboration, innovation, and public awareness, the summit highlighted the country’s collective effort to build a secure and trusted digital ecosystem.
