By Meru Couple Sentenced To Life Imprisonment For Drug Trafficking.
A Meru court has sentenced a couple to life imprisonment for trafficking bhang.
James Muthiora and his wife Fridah Karimi were handed the sentence by Senior Principal Magistrate Thomas Muraguri Mwangi.
The couple was arrested in November 2018 alongside three others who were acquitted.
They were accused of jointly trafficking by storing, selling, and distributing 103 kilograms of narcotic drugs namely cannabis with a street value of Ksh 3.09 million.

In addition to the life sentence, they were also handed a 5-year term or the option of paying a fine of Ksh 4.6 million for being in possession of utensils used in connection with the preparation of narcotic drugs contrary to section 5 (1) (d) of the narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances Act number 4 of 1994.
The couple in their defense said the jail terms are harsh and excessive compared to the evidence presented in court.
