Heavy Rain And Strong Winds Alert
Heavy rainfall of more than 20mm in 24hrs is expected over the western, central, southeastern, and northeastern parts of the country on Friday 22nd January 2021. The heavy rainfall is expected to continue on Saturday 23rd January over highlands west of the Rif Valley, southeastern lowlands, and highlands east of the Rift Valley. The rainfall is likely to reduce in intensity on Sunday 24th January 2021.
The strong easterly to southeasterly winds being experienced over the northwestern region is likely to strengthen to more than 15 meters per second (30 knots) while northerly winds of more than 12.9 meters per second (25 knots) are expected over eastern parts of the country on Friday 22nd to Saturday 23rd, January 2021.
Counties: Migori, Homa Bay, Siaya, Kisumu, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Narok Kiambu, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Murang’a, Embu, Meru, Kirinyaga, Tharaka Nithi, Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Tana river, Garissa, Wajir, Isiolo, Samburu, Marsabit and Turkana.
Residents in all the mentioned areas are advised to be on the lookout for potential floods and strong winds. Floodwaters may appear in places where it has not rained heavily especially downstream. Residents are advised to avoid driving through or walking in moving water or open fields and not to shelter under trees and near grilled windows to minimize exposure to lightning strikes. Strong winds may blow off roofs, uproot trees and cause structural damages. Updates will be provided promptly if there are any changes.
