Glovo Opens New Nairobi Headquarters, Commits KSh 10 Billion Investment by 2030

Glovo has officially opened its new Nairobi headquarters and announced plans to invest an additional KSh 10 billion in Kenya by 2030, signaling growing confidence in the country’s rapidly expanding digital economy.

The inauguration ceremony, held in Nairobi, was led by Lee Kinyanjui, Cabinet Secretary for Investment, Trade and Industry, alongside senior government officials, diplomats, and technology stakeholders.

The new headquarters marks a major milestone for the company as it deepens its footprint in one of its fastest-growing markets globally.

Glovo Reports Record Growth in Kenya

The investment announcement comes after a record year for Glovo in Kenya. The company reported a 40% year-on-year increase in orders by the end of 2025, reflecting rising demand for digital commerce and on-demand services.

Since entering Kenya in 2019, Glovo says it has:

  • Contributed KSh 9 billion to Kenya’s GDP in 2025 alone
  • Generated over KSh 20 billion for local businesses
  • Directed 80% of that value to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)

Today, the platform operates in 12 towns and cities across Kenya. It supports more than 6,000 merchants and 2,200 active riders daily.

The new Nairobi office also serves as Glovo’s African digital hub and currently employs more than 600 young Kenyans.

Government Backs Digital Investment

Speaking during the launch, Lee Kinyanjui described the investment as a strong endorsement of Kenya’s position as a regional technology hub.

“This investment is a strong vote of confidence in Kenya’s growing digital economy, the innovation of our young people, and Nairobi’s position as a leading technology and business hub on the continent,” he said.

The Cabinet Secretary also noted that digital platforms continue to lower traditional barriers for small businesses by expanding access to formal and scalable markets.

According to the 2026 Economic Survey Report, Glovo’s operations contributed to:

  • 15.6% growth in Kenya’s accommodation and food service sector
  • 4.8% growth in the ICT sector

The government further noted that 75% of Glovo’s economic impact flows directly to local businesses, aligning with Kenya’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

Doubling Talent and Expanding Opportunity

Sacha Michaud, Co-founder and Vice-President of Global Affairs at Glovo, highlighted Kenya’s growing strategic importance within the company’s global operations.

“Over 600 young people work in this office and throughout our African digital hub based here in Kenya. In the next two years, we will double this to 1,200,” he said.

Meanwhile, Caroline Mutuku said the new headquarters reflects Glovo’s long-term commitment to investing in local talent and partnerships.

“We are building a stronger ecosystem for partners, creating opportunities for young Kenyans, and delivering greater convenience for customers across the country,” she noted.

Kenya Strengthens Its Silicon Savannah Status

The event attracted senior leaders from government and diplomatic circles, including:

  • Allan Chesang
  • Alphonce Kanunga
  • Mercy Wanjau
  • John Mwendwa
  • Philip Thigo
  • Jaime Moreno Bau

Their presence reflected growing international interest in Kenya’s digital transformation journey.

As Kenya continues to position itself as Africa’s Silicon Savannah, Glovo’s KSh 10 billion pledge reinforces the country’s attractiveness as a technology and innovation hub.

Importantly, with between 80% and 90% of platform participants being young people, the investment also supports youth employment, enterprise growth, and the expansion of digital opportunities beyond Nairobi into cities such as Mombasa and Nakuru.
