Meru Deputy Governor Titus Ntuchiu hosted Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Mutahi Kagwe in Meru County, who graced the official launch and opening of various new and state of the art facilities that have been constructed by Meru County Government under the leadership of Governor Kiraitu Murungi, at Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital (MeTRH).

Hon. Kagwe officially commissioned the new Oxygen Generating plant, and opened our new ICU Renal Block which has been constructed by our administration where MeTRH will now be one of the few major hospitals in the country with modern and well equipped ICU.

The CS was taken on a guided tour of the new Meru Blood Transfusion Satellite Center, Histopahology Lab and the upcoming four-storey modern Ward block which is now near completion and is expected to expand admission capacity for MeTRH by more than 350 wards.

Meru Government is honored by the kind comments and commendation from Hon. Kagwe for what it has accomplished so far, in revitalizing and modernizing the leading referral hospital in the region as well as other efforts to improve health facilities including construction, staffing, and equipping of over 70 new facilities across the County.

Kagwe who was also accompanied by Dr. Nduku Kilonzo, Director of National Blood Transfusion Service, has highly recommended the Meru Government’s efforts in the establishment of the new blood transfusion center which will be able to serve other parts of the country.

Governor Kiraitu Murungi continues to work closely with the national government in ensuring that we provide the best healthcare to our people of Meru, and these efforts have born fruits because, under this year’s national fiscal budget, our County is one of the only two counties in Kenya allocated money for the establishment of a Cancer Center.

Meru County has been leading nationally in cancer prevalence and the establishment of the cancer center is a much welcome relief to our people who have been enduring heavy costs and pain in the management of the disease, particularly, because of distance and equipment access.
