Innovation marks a new era in mobile entertainment, transforming caller experiences.

In a move set to redefine mobile entertainment, Safaricom, in partnership with Huawei, has introduced VybCall, Kenya’s first Video Ring Back Tone service.

The new feature builds on the legacy of the popular Skiza platform and allows users to share short video clips with callers while they wait for calls to be answered.

With this launch, Kenya becomes the first African country to offer a video ring back tone service, setting a new standard in digital mobile experiences.

A New Wave of Mobile Innovation

“At Safaricom, we are constantly exploring ways to give our customers choice and control,” said James Maitai, Safaricom’s Chief Technology and Information Officer. “VybCall transforms daily moments creatively and strengthens our commitment to innovation.”

The service is available on Safaricom Neon, select Samsung and Oppo models, and Xiaomi’s Redmi A series. Support for Vivo devices is expected in the second quarter of 2026. Customers can activate VybCall by dialing *860# on compatible devices or visiting vybcall.safaricom.com through the Safaricom App.

Powering Creativity and Connection

Huawei Kenya CEO Gavin Gao said VybCall will empower Kenyan creatives and enhance the mobile experience. “This is one of the ways Huawei collaborates with partners to create technologies that improve customer experiences and support economic growth,” he noted.

Skiza has long allowed users to personalize calls with music. Now, VybCall adds video and monetization opportunities for creators and brands. Businesses can use this platform to turn idle call time into a creative marketing tool.

Enhancing Everyday Digital Moments

The launch of VybCall reinforces Safaricom’s investment in customer experience and digital innovation. By reimagining simple interactions, the company continues to position Kenya as a leader in mobile technology and entertainment across Africa.
