IEBC confirms next general elections will be held in August 2022.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has cleared the air over the exact date of the next election.

Amid widespread allegations that there are plans to delay the next poll, the national polls agency declared on Friday that the election will go on as planned.

“The next general elections will be held on 9th August 2022 in line with the recently released Elections Operational Plan,” IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati announced.

As a result, Chebukati said all candidates and political parties who wish to offer themselves for election in the poll are free to commence financing of their campaigns.

The parties and candidates, according to IEBC, are required to furnish the commission with authorized persons they will have appointed to manage the campaign funds.

Campaign financing had been put on hold and wasn’t operational in the last election. But the IEBC boss the 2013 Act is in force for the purposes of next year’s eagerly-awaited poll.

“All authorized persons shall be required at registration to open campaign financing ban accounts where contributions by a candidate, political party or contributions received from a lawful source and submit the details of the account to the commission,” Chebukati noted in his statement.
