Governor Kiraitu Fulfils Promise To Street Children

The cohort of members from street families(street youth and children) have officially commenced their rehabilitation program dubbed  “Mindset and Behavior Change” at MYS Igoji training center, thanks to the Meru Governor H.E. Kiraitu Murungi.

The youth and children enrolled from streets across Meru, Maua, Kiengu, Kangeta, Kianjai, Nchiru, Meru town, Nkubu, Timau and other towns, will be engaged in a rigorous rehabilitation program to improve discipline, transform them from street lifestyle.

This even as to align their conduct and behavior to make them ready for learning, training and instruction to help them get inducted back into society as productive participants in the vision of Making Meru Great, in line with a recent pledge by the Governor of Meru County, H.E. Kiraitu Murungi.

A few days ago, Governor Kiraitu hosted the youth and children living in the streets and announced that his Government has tailored a program through Meru Youth Service (MYS).

This will give them suitable training and skill acquisition in technical and craft courses such as motor vehicle mechanical engineering, plumbing, masonry work, beauty and cosmetology as well as hospitality among others so that they can be able to earn a living and become economically independent as they actively participate in transforming Meru.

The Governor’s ambitious program is historical because there has never been such a massive program anywhere in Kenya to rehabilitate children and youth from the streets, who have in the past been viewed by government and society as a challenge, a menace and a big bother that was nearly impossible to address.

Children who have been absorbed by the program but are below the age of 15 will be rehabilitated and inducted for basic education and other appropriately suited programs.
