Born in 1968 in Gatamaiyu, a small rural village in Kenya, John Gachora’s life reflects resilience, ambition, and visionary leadership. He was the eighth of thirteen children in a tea-farming family.

Gachora began his education at Kamahindu Primary School. He later joined the prestigious Alliance High School, where he thrived both academically and socially.
In his third year, he was elected Chairman of the Young Farmers Club. This role revealed his natural ability to lead and motivate others, even at a young age.
His potential soon extended beyond Kenyan borders. Through an exchange program, he attended Brooks School in Massachusetts, USA. The experience broadened his perspective and fueled his drive for excellence.
He went on to study at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), earning both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. In addition, he later earned an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

A Global Finance Career Rooted in Purpose
After completing his studies, Gachora began his career at Credit Suisse in New York. He later moved to Bank of America, where he served as Managing Director. Each move sharpened his leadership skills and deepened his industry knowledge. Eventually, he joined Absa Group Limited in South Africa and rose to the position of CEO of Absa Africa.
In 2013, Gachora returned to Kenya to lead NIC Bank. When the bank merged with Commercial Bank of Africa in 2019, he became the Group Managing Director and CEO of the newly formed NCBA Group https://ke.ncbagroup.com/. Since then, he has led the institution through growth and transformation.
Throughout his career, Gachora has promoted a people-first leadership approach. He values open communication, staff development, and inclusivity.
