DTB Celebrates Major Sustainability Milestone with One Million Trees Grown
A Million Trees and Counting
Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) has hit a major environmental milestone after growing its one millionth tree under the Much More Than Trees initiative.
The achievement was celebrated at AMREF International University in Northlands, Ruiru, during an event led by Dr. Clement Ng’oriareng of the Kenya Forest Service.
Launched in 2023, the programme supports DTB’s commitment to environmental stewardship and its goal to achieve net-zero operations by 2030. It goes beyond planting seedlings by prioritising nurturing, monitoring, and long-term environmental impact.

Building a Greener and More Resilient Future
DTB Group CEO, Nasim Devji, said the milestone signals the bank’s intention to accelerate its efforts by bringing more partners on board.
“At DTB, sustainability excellence guides our growth and daily operations. Tree-growing is essential to that mission. Our work doesn’t end at planting; it continues as we grow healthy and resilient forests,” she said.
DTB has grown over one million trees since the programme began, and each tree continues to be monitored for survival and long-term health.
Nasim noted that the initiative’s name, Much More Than Trees, reflects its broader mission supporting livelihoods, restoring biodiversity, and strengthening climate resilience.
“These trees stand for carbon reduction, community empowerment, and hope. And this is only the beginning,” she added.
Growing Impact Through Schools and Communities
DTB has planted trees across schools, tertiary institutions, and farming communities, working closely with students, teachers, farmers, and residents.
In schools, the bank has established microforests containing fruit trees to improve nutrition and provide hands-on learning for students.
Through its partnership with KTDA farmers, DTB has also planted avocado trees that give families additional sources of income and long-term economic stability.
Looking Ahead: 10 Million Trees by 2030
DTB aims to grow 10 million trees by 2030, supporting Kenya’s National Tree Growing and Restoration Campaign and contributing to efforts to tackle climate change and biodiversity loss.
The bank views tree-growing as a key part of building a sustainable future for both communities and the country.
