NCBA Expands Banking Solutions for Kenya’s Education Sector
The bank is targeting schools and teachers with financing, digital banking and financial wellness solutions as institutions modernize.
NCBA Bank is expanding its focus on Kenya’s education sector with a suite of banking solutions designed for schools, teachers, parents and students.
The move comes as schools invest in infrastructure, technology, transport and other resources needed to support modern learning.
Kenya has more than 23,000 primary schools and 9,000 secondary schools, according to the Ministry of Education. This creates a large and diverse market for financial services tailored to education institutions.
Financing Schools Beyond Infrastructure
NCBA’s education proposition combines financing, transaction banking and digital solutions.
Schools can access fee collection platforms, payments and cash management solutions, working capital facilities and infrastructure financing.
The offering also includes asset finance, vehicle financing, trade finance, digital banking and investment products.
These solutions are designed to help schools improve cash flow, manage collections and finance expansion.
NCBA has previously highlighted schools as an important SME segment. Its offering has included financing for school buses, ICT equipment and learning facilities.
The bank has also promoted digital tools such as SOMA Plus and NCBA Tills to help schools manage administration and cashless collections.
Teachers Get Dedicated Banking Support
NCBA is also targeting educators through its Workplace Banking proposition.
The offering includes salary accounts with early salary processing, salary advances and unsecured personal loans.
Teachers can also access mortgage financing, asset finance, digital banking and mobile lending solutions.
The bank says these services are designed to support educators with credit access, home ownership and longer-term wealth creation.
“Education is a cornerstone of national development, and teachers are at the heart of that transformation,” said Dennis Njau, Group Director, Retail Banking.
“At NCBA, our commitment extends beyond sponsorships and events. We have developed tailored financial solutions that support schools in their growth journeys while empowering teachers to achieve their personal and professional ambitions,” he added.
Supporting Families Through the Education Journey
NCBA’s education proposition also extends to parents and students.
The bank offers savings, investment and financing solutions aimed at helping families plan for education expenses.
Its education loan, for example, provides up to KES1.5 million for school fees, with repayment periods of up to 48 months, subject to the bank’s terms.
NCBA also offers an Educator policy that allows customers to save towards education and other financial goals.
Education as a Long-Term Growth Opportunity
The bank’s renewed focus comes as schools increasingly seek digital and sustainable solutions to manage their operations.
NCBA has previously positioned schools as businesses that require customised financial support to grow, digitise and operate sustainably.
In 2025, the bank’s Future-Ready Schools forum in Nakuru brought together school owners and education stakeholders to discuss financing, sustainability and digital transformation. The bank showcased solutions including Green Financing, WASH Loans and digital school administration tools.
For NCBA, the opportunity goes beyond providing loans.
“The education sector represents one of the most impactful areas for sustainable economic development,” Njau said.
“As schools continue to expand, digitize and invest in modern learning environments, and as teachers seek greater financial empowerment, there is a growing need for specialized banking solutions.”
Linking Education to Economic Growth
NCBA’s education strategy forms part of its Change the Story Agenda, which focuses on creating social and economic impact through partnerships and financial solutions.
The bank says supporting schools and teachers can contribute to financial inclusion while strengthening institutions that prepare Kenya’s future workforce.
The approach also aligns with NCBA’s broader purpose of “Banking on Belief, Empowering Ambition”.
As schools modernize and educators seek greater financial flexibility, the education sector is emerging as an increasingly important space for banks to provide more than traditional lending.
For NCBA, that means building a financial ecosystem around the classroom from school operations and teacher finances to parents’ savings and students’ education needs.
