Strengthening Sustainability Through Tree-Planting
Java House, https://javahouseafrica.com/ in partnership with Tukalime, Munzer Kenya, and Food For Education, will plant 6,000 trees across 14 schools in Kiambu County.
The ‘Trees For Tomorrow’ initiative, launched at Manguo Primary School in Limuru, supports Kenya’s goal to plant 15 billion trees by 2032.
Java House CEO Priscilla Gathungu emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainability and environmental conservation.
“We recognize the challenges of deforestation, global warming, and climate change. By engaging schools, we shape future leaders to prioritize tree-planting,” she stated.

Java House also partners with Munzer Kenya to convert used cooking oil into biodiesel, cutting 148 tonnes of carbon emissions in 2024.
Munzer Kenya’s Purity Simiyu highlighted the initiative’s role in improving biodiversity, air quality, and carbon sequestration.
“Enhancing green cover is as important as reducing emissions. This initiative supports our vision for a healthier environment,” she noted.
Tukalime MD Kevin Kamau emphasized trees’ role in improving soil health, conserving water, and boosting agricultural productivity.
“Planting trees near farms enhances food security. We encourage communities to integrate tree-planting into sustainable farming,” Kamau stated.
Food For Education’s Lyndah Ronoh linked the project to ensuring sustainability in school feeding programs.
“Growing trees secures a future for the children we feed. Schools are vital in creating long-term environmental impact,” she said.
Kenya’s forest cover stands at 8.83%, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. The country aims to plant 1.5 billion trees annually through public-private partnerships.
This initiative aligns with the African Forest Landscapes Restoration Initiative, which seeks to restore 100 million hectares of forests across Africa.
