Safaricom commits sh200M to fight COVID-19

Safaricom PLC through its Mpesa and Safaricom Foundations has committed sh200M towards providing food and nutrition to Kenyans in need following the request by President Uhuru Kenyatta for emergency resources mobilization towards containing the spread and impact of COVID-19 pandemic.

Safaricom PLC chief Executive Officer Peter Ndegwa said “Safaricom is fully committed to supporting Kenya through the evolving situation around the COVID-19 pandemic. We have made business decisions that will enable our customers to access more of our products and services at either no cost or at a highly subsidized rate. These decisions will ensure Kenyans spend their money where they need it most”

M-PESA Foundation chairman Michael Joseph said they are making the contributions which they believe will go a long way towards ensuring no child goes to sleep hungry during this unprecedented crisis. He added that they continue partnering with the national government just like they have been doing.
